The term 'conspiracy theory' is a great example of how easy it easy to get a large segment of society to shut down ideas by mocking them, with zero thought -- the mad howling crowd. A 'conspiracy' means 2 or more people set out to do something. And a conspiracy to commit a crime is itself a crime, with people convicted of it all the time. And we have an everyday word 'theory'. But put those two words together -- conspiracy theory -- and a large segment of society can have their brains turned off instantly, and openly mock people while having ZERO idea of any elements of the issue at hand whatsoever.
A: I heard blah blah blah.
B: That is a conspiracy theory.
A: Oh, it's wrong then. Let me get back to my tv and video games.
This is a great object lesson for how easy it is to control people by controlling language. Keep an eye on language. Despots always attack the use of language and warp it to control people. (And bad people all around us warp language to use as weapons instead of using evidence and logic.)
