This has to be the dumbest justification so far. A 26-year veteran of the force should not be "panicking" and mistaking a gun for a taser.

@SW-User No reason a pilot with 42,000 flying hours should one day mistake the reading on his panel, but that's happened, too. There's no reason why a surgeon performing the 37 of the same surgeries would one day nick the liver, but that's been known to happen.
