When will it be the time?

After the recent shooting in Boulder the pro-gun groups have said now is not the time to talk about reforms, so as an outsider looking in Americans when will be the time and why?

The culture around guns in America fascinates me I am curious to where you stand and why I know this is a polarising subject so please try and be respectful to others views.

Sadly its too late for America to solve the problem. Sure the gun is part of the "freedom" of America. Lets skip right over the opening of the Second Ammendment that specifies "A Well regulated Militia" and get to the bit where American males get all insecure if they dont have any real firepower.
The fact is the damage is done. America has stepped off the cliff. There are just too many guns out there and not enough trust or will power to get them back. So either learn to fear and dress in kevlar, or move to a country where you can send your kids to school or go shopping or to the movies without wondering if you will see tomorrow.😷
True. They could also get hit by a car, drown in a flash flood, get killed by falling debris off a high rise construction site, killed in a bridge collapse, stabbed with a knife, strangled with a rope or wire, electrocuted, poisoned....I think we need to outlaw everything! Now! @whowasthatmaskedman

@stratosranger You are already perfectly aware that not one of those other causes of death can be inflicted on others in the same way a firearm can. And apart from the gun all have another primary non lethal purpose. Maybe you want to try the "guns dont kill people. People kill people" argument next.😷

@whowasthatmaskedman as someone who lived in Switzerland I can say with authority that people kill people.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@AthrillatheHunt Absolutely. A firearm just makes it so much easier to do it in bulk..😷
@stratosranger The huge difference is, the things you’ve mentioned occur when something goes wrong. Guns are supposed to wound or kill. That’s why people have them. And that’s why gun ownership should be regulated, similarly to the way we regulate car ownership, even though cars are not specifically designed to cause harm.

@whowasthatmaskedman absolutely no reason for a person to have a semi automatic assault rifle.
@whowasthatmaskedman You can take a car and turn it into a deadly weapon. Just rev it up at the end of the parking lot and aim for the front doors. You could probably get up to 60-70 MPH before smashing through the doors and taking out tons of people. You can do the same with a pressure cooker. Or a municipal gas line at the right place. Everything is a weapon once you buy into the victim mentality they’re selling
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@stratosranger victim is the word of the day today. Lol
@AthrillatheHunt Yeah I’m sure the Jews who were being lead to the cattle cars thought the same thing. Or the 100 million of others who were exterminated by their governments. Yeah, no need at all
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
You totally lost me on that one dude @stratosranger
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@stratosranger But everything you mention HAS A DIFFERENT PRIMARY PURPOSE. They have to be abused by a warped mind toweaponise them.. So can I make the argument that that if you purchase a firearm without a specific hunting requirement your mind is already warped?
After the Soviets disarmed the populace following WW2, soldiers were dispatched to farms and homes to take whatever was needed “for the greater good.” Soldiers armed with machine guns were dispatched to take food, jewelry, livestock, whatever they could get their hands on. Maybe if enough people had been armed that sad story wouldn’t have been so sad after all. @AthrillatheHunt
@whowasthatmaskedman I see! So if I buy a gun with the idea of defending myself from others with guns who intend me or my family harm, I have a warped mind? Now THAT is totalitarian thinking. Good job Stalin! You’ll fit right in with the Demonrat party
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@stratosranger after WW2 Russia had exactly 205 men between the ages of 16-45 in the whole country. Their wartime losses were staggering.
That many?? No! @AthrillatheHunt

@stratosranger if the 20 th century taught us anything, it’s that brutal fascist govts can arise out of democracies (Spain, Germany, Italy etc..)
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@AthrillatheHunt which is kinda a strong argument why people in democracies should be armed .
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@stratosranger No. You merely confirmed my original point, which was that there are now so many guns within the nation and the idea that you need a gun "to protect yourself" Because Americans are @$$holes who will shoot you and you cant trust your government, that there is no way back and if you want to feel safe without becoming part of the problem you should live someplace else..😷
I am not part of “the problem.” And I feel safe. My guns would be my ABSOLUTELY LAST RESORT in a break-in situation. Also, I hope I will never ever have to use them. I do thank god there are still places in the US where the state government doesn’t treat me like a criminal because I believe in protecting my fucking home and family. That’s the problem. Not people like me. Governments like that. It’s on my top 5 list of reasons why I left the communist blue state and headed south. And I’m not alone in this. Blue states are in the top 10 states in the US with the highest exodus counts. There’s no mystery why. Taxation and criminalization of legal citizens who just want to live their lives in peace without being viewed as a criminal just because they believe in the right to defend themselves. They’re fed up like I was and have decided not to give that POS government another dime of their tax money. Anyone who tells me I don’t have the right to defend myself can go screw themselves on a sharp poisoned spike. @whowasthatmaskedman
@AthrillatheHunt Absolutely correct! It’s the reason why the second amendment was NUMBER TWO on the founding father’s list. First was free speech. The second was to back up that free speech with the ABILITY to defend that speech and that freedom.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@stratosranger still don’t think people need assault rifles .
I never felt the need for one myself. But it’s the beginning of yet another slippery slope. First they take the assault weapons (which btw are not the fully automatic guns the military has) then it’s hand guns, rifles, shot guns...it never ends because the agenda (aka the power play) never ends. @AthrillatheHunt

@stratosranger it’s the same stepping stone used for gay marriage and legal weed. It’s a step in a strategy for sure
Meh. Gay marriage doesn’t bother me. Hey, if you’re of legal age, it’s consentful, both of you are humans, knock yourselves out. Life is too short and why shouldn’t gays be as miserable in marriage as straight people, huh? 😁 And weed? Again, guy gets drunk, probably will drive or get violent. Guy gets stoned, will order pizza, screw all night like a goat. I have no qualms with weed. Anything beyond that gets sketchy. I see what you mean though. The line for me is drawn when it comes to legal age, consent and what level of biffle-dinked a drug is going to make someone. @AthrillatheHunt
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@stratosranger I’m in favor of both gay marriage and legal weed . I was referring to the process .
