People Don't Seem To Understand that Hillary Won the Popular vote

60,467,000+ people voted for Hillary and 60,071,000+ people voted for Trump. If the elections were based on actual individual ballots cast, then Hillary would be president. So, please stop saying most people voted for Trump, because it is inaccurate. He won the electoral vote, meaning he gained the most number of points through the states in that system, which is what decides the president.

The same thing happened with Bush/Gore. It's interesting how many people don't seem to understand their own country's voting system...

Electoral votes are NOT part of democracy. Outrageous.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
Yes everytime we have an election the losers say this.
ReaperofTime · 46-50, M
We are actually a REPUBLIC
offingg · 26-30, F
@MasterLee: Oh so electoral votes are democratic? Funny enough, that doesn't seem to be part of the fundamentals of democracy.
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
Because we are a democratic republic
ReaperofTime · 46-50, M
@offingg: They are the fundementals of a Republic much how the Roman Senate often voted against popular measures

"The Electoral College is disaster for democracy." Donald Trump, November 7, 2012. Dollars to donuts he would be raising a fit if he won the popular vote and lost the Electoral College.

This is NOT a democracy you ignoramus - it's a REPUBLIC....how DUMB can you be ??
offingg · 26-30, F
@ReaperofTime: True @JaggedLittlePill: Yes, I realize that especially bc there is a democratic party and a republican party....
ReaperofTime · 46-50, M
@yllacsar: Civics 101
offingg · 26-30, F
@yllacsar: If you want to have a discussion with me, you better talk to me with respect. Or else, I will ignore your existence. And actually the US IS a democracy as well.
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
@offingg: Correct. Donald Trump has even called it a democracy.
offingg · 26-30, F
@luckranger71: EXACTLY. That's when Obama won, and thank GOD he won. Funny enough he protested him winning but now wants to deny people protesting him, LOL.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@luckranger71: We have a representative democracy: a republic based on democratic ideals.
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
@MasterLee: I'm not complaining about the result. More people in this country wanted Hillary for President, but this is the system and I accept it. I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of the President-elect if the results were reversed.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@luckranger71: Like when obama was selected?
Kaceekakes · 31-35, F
@offingg: This is completely off topic, but I love your avatar. Jane is so underrated, yet amazing.
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
Obama won both the popular vote and the Electoral College, so I'm not sure what your point is.
offingg · 26-30, F
@Kaceekakes: Haha thank you, I love her too #90skids
