Is Dr. Phil a fraud?
I wish the public would STOP calling him “Doctor Phil” - he is NOT a medical doctor and he lost his license to practice clinical psychology approximately 15 years ago due to serious professional misconduct and ethics violations.
Please call him by his correct name - Phil McGraw.
He should NOT be called “a doctor” because he lost his license to practice clinical psychology because he violated professional ethics by having one of his patients drawn into a financial business relationship with him. He hired a patient of his to work for him, which is clearly illegal. He would have had his license taken away from the state license board and in order to avoid bad publicity - Phil McGraw and his lawyers/public relations handlers decided to make public statements “He decided not to continue praticing as a clinical psychologist in order to focus on publishing books, public speaking and his television show”.
Dr. Phil had a sexual relationship with a patient and she went to the state licensing board and filed a formal grievance. This was long before Dr. Phil became famous. Before he was famous he owned a sleazy fitness gym and there were numerous and VALID allegations of him sexually harrassing his female employees. His fitness gym also had serious financial problems with this business - it eventually went “bust” and closed.
What I dislike about Phil McGraw is his bombastic, egotistical personality. He is a “Know It All” and frequently insults and talks down to the guests on his show. The premise of the show is embarrassing and talking down to the guests. THIS is why people tune in to watch his program. I don’t like “Judge Judy” either - because she is rude, insulting to guests on her program BUT at least she is a REAL judge with a valid license……..unlike Phil McGraw who is banned from practicing as a clinical psychologist because he lost his license to practice.
Let’s face it - the primary premise of the Dr Phil show is it serves as an INFOMERCIAL for Phil McGraw to hawk his products, sell his merchandise, plug his sons tv shows and sell his wifes crappy skin care products. EVERY SINGLE EPISODE has “product placement” informercial segment with Phil McGraw selling his products
Even more irritating that Phil McGraw his his wife. She has ZERO credentials in the mental health industry. His wife has no education a high school diploma and launched her career as a “Mental Health Expert” by riding on the coat tails of her quack husband. Robin McGraw is basically a very rich homemaker - who raised kids and was a housewife - then her dubious, self-serving husband became a billionaire. Somehow Robin McGraw managed to get herself on many Board of Directors for non profit organizations - this is despite she has ZERO credentials in the mental health industry and her education consists of a high school diploma.
The REAL PURPOSE of the Dr. Phil show is an INFOMERCIAL to constantly hawk Phil McGraw’s books, plug his son’s television programs, hawking his wifes crappy skin care products. Every single episode of this show is an INFOMERCIAL with his product endorsement plugging his various businesses.
The sleaziest part of Phil McGraw is that he has FINANCIAL INTEREST and makes huge sums of money from the dubious rehab facility “Onsite”. He also earns money from the dubious “Doctor on Demand” business - so much CONFLICT OF INTEREST issues with Phil McGraw.
Phil McGraw and his wife Robin are self promoters who allege they are “Experts on Domestic Violence” but if you watch the tv program - P - hil McGraw is typically quite sexist towards female guests on his show. I remember when a woman who was raised in a religious cult, forced into an arranged marriage when she was 14 years old, and escaped from the religious cult because she was concerned the domestic violence was going to escalate to the point, her husband was going to murder her………….Phil McGraw made the focus of this episode on “Family Re-Unification” and he “prescribed” family counseling and marriage therapy to “save the marriage”.
What kind of nonsense is THAT? When the woman stood up to Phil McGraw and told him NO WAY was she going to go back to her ex-husband - NO WAY was she willing to be in the presence of her ex-husband - and that she had ZERO willingness to go back to the domestic violence batterer…….Then Phil McGraw slammed her for being “Treatment Resistant”. She told Phil McGraw she already had plenty of therapy from her local domestic violence shelter and 100% of the staff told her to STAY AWAY from her ex-husband batterer. That wound up with Phil McGraw doing his typical bombastic, wind-bag, gas-bag…..very long monologue citing all his “expert” credentials - and bashing the woman who LEFT her domestic violence batterer.
Phil McGraw and his wife Robin have ZERO interest in actually helping people - this is a financially motivated media empire which exists solely for their own financial profit and ego-boosting.
About 2 years ago I watched a show and the guest was an elderly woman in her 70s who divorced her husband of 50 years because he drove them into bankruptcy because he illegally used 100% of the equity in their home - cracked open their retirement pension - and spent all of it on “online dating scams” - the ex husband was in his 70s and he spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on online dating websites. The 70-ish ex husband blew all their money sending it to young women in their early 20s who promised “I Love You” to this old creep.
Phil McGraw turned it into TWO one hour episodes - 99% of those two one hour episodes was Phil McGraw ranting to the 70 year old ex husband, saying what a creep he was. This was all for “shock value” to boost tv ratings. NOT ONCE in the two hours (2 episodes of 1 hour each) did Phil McGraw OFFER ANY HELP to the elderly woman in her early 70’s. When she divorced her husband - after having been forced into bankruptcy - this elderly woman was facing homelessness. She told Phil McGraw “you flew me to Los Angeles for this tv show and I have one more night in the hotel room you arranged, but when I fly back to my home city, I have no place to live and will be on the street, homeless”. Then it would ALWAYS cut to a tv commercial - and Phil McGraw would change the subject.
What about Phil McGraw’s ALLEGED “charity foundation”? He has assets in the billions……he is far more than just a multi-millionaire - he is a BILLIONAIRE. He did not offer any support with housing, nor any financial support to help this elderly woman in her early 70s ANY HELP.
The Phil McGraw show is just one cut above Jerry Springer. Actually, I have more respect for Jerry Springer because he publicly admits he is a sleazy, self promoting creep - versus Phil McGraw who constantly tries to self-promote himself as some sort of “humanitarian”. The McGraws are in it ONLY for the money, publicity and serving their huge egos.
The really sad part about this is the public who has fallen for this scammer. Huge fan base and millions of people avidly watch this crappy tv show. There is no accounting for how easily people can be hustled.
