Compromises Will Be Made

The 50/50 US Senate split means that the Biden administration must compromise to have important bills passed. This is especially true with two conservative Democrats in the Senate: Joe Manchin, West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona.

Seems they may convince the White House to accept the 10 GOP Senators offer of $1,600 total stimulus payment, instead of $2,000, guaranteeing a filibuster-proof quick immediate passage.

Joe Manchin is also carrying out a mini feud with VP Harris, following the VP's attack on coal mining.

As an aside, seems as if the fringe right wing media is using a gaffe to strawman (surprise right). VP Harris, when referring to "abandoned mine lands", she said "abandoned land mines". Manchin is not joining the gaffe parade, but he thinks something more that reclaiming mine lands should be done, as his state's economy was pretty dependent on coal.

Unless natural gas price more than doubles, coal is on its way down, and it's not about economics, not the environment.

Compromise is not a bad thing, when common ground can indeed be found. Hopefully we get back to more compromise following the Trump years of do it my way or else.
