I agree. GOP members everywhere are chanting the narrative that just because they nearly destroyed the place, making them answer for it would be divisive and mean. Let's look at that through another lens: once a guy gets away with killing his enemy, isn't it better not to try him because a trial would just upset both families?
Hundreds of US citizens thought so little of their government, felt so arrogant they thought they were immune to consequences, storming a federal building and threatening government officials. Some in the government helped.
That deep and toxic level of disrespect and hostility has to be righted. If it can't be left to citizens who get caught up in the cult of personality to think rationally, then it should be done legally to impress upon the lawless that bad acts will be accounted for.
