My wife is from Venezuela. Nothing has changed since it stopped making international news. I don't recognize the stick figures that are my in-laws and that's been going on for almost 10 years now!
So why does one place with a very short history of democracy come up with a student protest movement, with an ugly name and after 2 short years, leads to the bloodless overthrow of a dictatorship and another place with entrenched democracy tolerates starvation at the hands of a.dictator? From what I understand, the Serbian people weren't short on food. I don't think that they were short on anything except democracy--the sort of thing no one really needs until other needs are not getting met. But the people of Venezuela don't even get to eat and somehow that dumbass bus driver manages to keep the police and armed forces on side. I'd love to know how the Serbs did it.
