Money, Politics and Democracy. Your thoughts?

I continue to be shocked at the amount of money that's involved in USA politics. It borders on the obscene to me.
"Money talks" it seems and without it ... what?

I think media coverage has a lot to do with it, in the old days newspapers and magazines were a huge part, now it's all TV and the internet. (I'm just guessing though)
