NRA Surrenders

The National Rifle Association announced Friday it plans to move to Texas, fleeing ongoing litigation brought against it by the New York State attorney general, who has sought to dissolve the organization for violating its nonprofit status.

As part of the move, the gun rights group is also considering closing or shrinking its headquarters located in Fairfax, Va., officials said, emphasizing that no decision has been made.

The NRA was chartered in New York state in 1871, but has long had most of its employees based in the Washington area.

Last summer, New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) filed a lawsuit that called for the removal of NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre from the leadership post he had held for four decades, saying he and other officials used the nonprofit group to finance a luxurious lifestyle. LaPierre kicked back at James in making the announcement of the planned move.

“Obviously, an important part of this plan is ‘dumping New York,’’’ LaPierre said in a prepared statement. “The NRA is pursuing reincorporating in a state that values the contributions of the NRA, celebrates our law-abiding members, and will join us as a partner in upholding constitutional freedom.”

The NRA laid out a plan that involves some restructuring, including declaring bankruptcy in Texas, though the organization said Friday it is at the strongest financial position in its history.

Note to all NRA members: Wayne LaPierre needs some pricey suits, and luxury vacations. Please send money.

In on other words, dumb gun nuts in Texas are less likely to object to our money laundering.

Sounds accurate @MistyCee.

@MistyCee They still cannot dismiss the New York legal action. Even Chapter 11 will not protect them. The NY AG will be first in line to collect, and will be the first in line to challenge in bankruptcy court.
@Northwest Hence the secession. i don't think Texas really wants to become a rogue State, but Texas alone seems like natural retreat from America alone, err, first.

@MistyCee In 2022, the state's Congressional House representation could flip blue.
@Northwest It would be a smart move unless Texas wants to ally itself with North Korea and Russia.

Trump seems to think Florida might give him assylum, but that state is basically a swamp, tourist trap and tax haven whereas Texas has a better chance of resisting the Union if he can get it to.

Plus, let's face it, well off racist retirees in Florida are less likely to put their lives on the line to fight fit white supremacy and Trump then Texas rednecks who want to keep their guns.

Trump really should have invested in the Hill Country or West Texas if he wants to find a refuge from prosecution, and he needs to make nice with fellow criminals like Lapierre.

It sure seems to me that flyover country, like the South before, can't afford to fight against modernity, but will it try anyway?

They really need to secure and subjugate Austin and San Antonio to make Texas a viable refuge.

@MistyCee And Houston. Basically all the spots where most people with brains and a sense of humanity live.
