So the US government has highly competent hackers working for them but the only people in government that understand tech are focused entirely on

Offense, rather than defense and to the extent there is a blue team defending the US government's technology particularly at the local level especially they suck at their jobs and are basically push overs to defeat which to be honest is plenty of incentive to learn even more about technology because I want the government to have to be afraid of me.

Governments should be afraid of their citizens- not vice versa.

Our whole national defense is based on offense, which is why we should have a Secretary of Offense, not Defense.

@windinhishair Let me put my perspective about IT in terms at this point.

We live in a nation that is utterly dependent on technology, it needs emerging technologies too, we grew up in a Technological wonderland and yet most people are too terrified to even look underneath the good.

I have neighbors who have seen the rise of the internet and yet still don't even own a PC And I've come to realize that we live in a nation of technologically illiterate people who vote in elections for leaders who are just as incompetent if not more so at technology as they are.

and while the equation group of hackers is our bastards at tailored access the NSA they are offense only and not defensive in nature which means that in effect no one is blue teaming terribly effectively for the government and what do I mean by blue team? playing defense against Penetration testing.

Our government is essentially a sitting duck to all kinds of malicious hackers and part my Ethos practically WANTS to do it just to create the pressure on the system to correct the level of ignorance out there.

I could get behind ransomwaring the government just to teach them to LEARN THEIR SHIT. and then returning the money.

@PDXNative1986 I agree that we should be at least as strong on defense against attacks as we are on offense. With an economy absolutely dependent on technology, an all-out offensive against the government and private businesses by a foreign actor would cripple the nation. And as we have shown, we are not even marginally prepared to deal with it.

@windinhishair Yes I am fully aware, The discussion I had on AnimeBytes helped me refine this argument to specify EXACTLY what I meant and concede our attack capacity is the best in the world and world class but no one is really defending us except our ability to counter attack.

they are sitting ducks.
