People talk about abolishing the Electoral College system. If that happened, how many candidates would run in the general election for president? ~

Seven? Eight? If we had a national popular vote system, lots of people could run and a candidate could be elected with 30% or less of the vote. Never mind what the Trump people are screaming about now, imagine the potential for election cheating and fraud in a system like that.

You didn't look at your own ballot did you?! Six were on there anyway, plus a write in option!

@DeWayfarer But only two who could actually win because of the Electoral College system.

@RedBaron I don't see how that would stop people from voting for another candidate! They have those options. Yet they all chose to congregate into two groups because of balance of power reasons, not because of the electoral college.

Don't get me wrong though, I am against the electoral college. Just don't see how getting rid of it will change how people will vote. They will vote the same exact way with it or without it.

@RedBaron The others wouldn’t have any real chance based on popular vote....no third party candidate has gotten 20% of the vote in recent years, let alone 40%.

@DragonFruit and why with it, it's no different! They will vote how they please either way! 🤷‍♂️

@DragonFruit I do question your percentages though. Independents have won. Even in the Senate!

@DeWayfarer This discussion is about the Electoral College, which only governs presidential selection.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@RedBaron yet the people have chosen independents! Not many and it hasn't made a difference!
RedBaron · M
@DeWayfarer Not for president.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@RedBaron and not for ANY office, president or not!

@RedBaron why do you believe Bernie ran as a Democrat and not libertarian twice?!
