Would it be better like this?

Say there’s a local park run by the council.

We turn it into a ‘cooperative park’. Every citizen/constituent living in that local area gets an equal share of ownership. Decision over how the park’s run and how money is raised are made democratically among the shareholders. Those who don’t care to have a say may abstain from votes or sell their shares to those who want more of a say.

I think this would ensure the local community gets more of a say, rather than an indirect say every election time. It could also become a fairer model of privatisation applicable to other public assets.

So only members can use the park?

@TexChik the initial ‘members’ are all people who already most use the park. From then it’s up to them what the policy is.

They may keep it completely free and just raise money from parking fees, cafe rent, and occasional venue space.
