@Colormegone That is nuts if the vaccine is safe and effective it MOST CERTAINLY is better than masks indefinitely. My patience for wearing masks in public is limited. I am willing to do so ONLY because I believe it is a stopgap until better solutions are in place. I HOPE I AM CLEAR ON THAT. The PURPOSE of the masks is to tie us over until either the virus dies down naturally and/or vaccines and more treatments are ready. THAT is what I believe FIRMLY.

@SW-User My mother died of a heart attack due to extreme anemia. She had extreme anemia because she had bone cancer due to metastatic breast cancer. Her death certificate says: breast cancer.

It's the same with COVID. Get COVID and die of an asthma attack as an asthmatic: COVID is your cause of death. Get COVID and throw a clot and die as somebody with clotting problems: COVID is your cause of death.

@CopperCicada You realize that the normal flu can do the exact same thing to the people you just described. We don't shut down, social distance, or wear masks over that. This is the flu with a good publicist.

@Northwest Somehow "COVID comorbidity' has come to mean "COVID had nothing to do with it". Which is cool. Because if we apply that to other things, then obesity, hypertension, diabetes, starvation, alcoholism, addiction... pretty much everything that causes death-- really doesn't cause death.

@CopperCicada Except that they were reporting people dying of COVID when it was CLEAR it had nothing to do with their deaths. A guy had COVID died in a motorcycle crash, it was recorded as a COVID death.

@Northwest I get people having a lot of questions and concerns about COVID, the science behind it, epidemiology, public policy. I do myself. I have professional colleagues that do. They point out the number of retracted journal articles on COVID, and red pill me on the story behind those retractions.

In philosophical terms, I find "hoaxing" (e.g. COVID is just a hoax) to be a lot like naive skepticism (e.g. how do you know? repeated until you have nothing). We know COVID exists. We have tomographic TEM images of the virus. We have sequenced all, what, 30kb, of the coronavirus RNA.

So let's not go down the same trap as naive skepticism with the hoaxing.

After the gulf oil spill they were giving out fat checks to people impacted by the spill. People were lying through their teeth to get those checks. I consulted for a company that was trying to do just that. "Find a reason we were impacted by the spill." I walked away from that job.

The opportunists re the oil spill are no different than any other opportunists. Including COVID opportunists. It doesn't mean COVID ceases to exist any more than the oil spill ceases to exist. That it's a hoax any more than the spill was a hoax.

People are no doubt trying to get as much aid re COVID as possible. I can see people doing the same as they did along the gulf to get those checks.

@CopperCicada I know of someone that died from a car accident and they tested him for COVID and he tested positive, so on his death certificate the doctor put cause of death Corona virus however he didn't die from the Corona virus.
