So...a cuban refugee talks about coming here by boat to escape communism.

I reckon living in Florida and being wealthy gives him the stage. What about others escaping tyrannical home situations?
I guess they arent from the right countries, maybe.

We have a weird emotional connection to Cuban refugees because of the old Cold War ethos and perhaps guilt over the Bay of Pigs fiasco. Must be odd for people under 45 to "get it."

@Human1000 for whatever reason we opened our arms to Cubans, it is not the right thing to close them to others that are in far more dire straights.

@Carla Cubans get a pass because they vote Republican, too, and well, Florida. Guatemalans in dire conditions (gangs, rape, no opportunity) not so much.

You absolutely nailed it,@Human1000.
@Human1000 And not so much Afro-Cubans (see “Mariel Boatlift”)

Well @bijouxbroussard, they had darker skin ,kinkier hair, and likely werent displaced elites. We all know how that goes...
@Carla Yep. Same racism, different target.
