It never was. It was and still is a republic.
@NorthernBear That is a bullshit distinction since a republic is just a method of implementing democracy.

@NorthernBear Uhm? The people never voted in the U.S., are you sure? Maybe not a "direct democracy" or "full democracy", but for sure it is a democracy.

Having said that, their argument is wrong because the USA is also a democracy. Or was or is as supposed to be.
