Anti-death. Pro mask. It is certainly helping in countries where people aren’t fighting it as a “freedom” issue.

@LvChris People have been wearing masks in my state since the wildfires have been occurring more frequently (that’s why I already had some when this started). And yet somehow, some Californians have decided it’s a freedom issue now that it’s required to actually help keep from spreading a deadly virus. And it’s little enough to ask.
@bijouxbroussard People can be weirdly contrary at times.
Here in Australia, the state of Victoria is experiencing its second wave, far more virulent and deadly than the first.
What we're discovering is:
- young people are the biggest carriers and spreaders. They tend to rebel when coerced. To win their cooperation takes positive and carefully targeted messaging. They are easier to reach via social media than through news channels.
- authorities forgot to translate messages to reach migrant communities that speak little or no English.
- the casualisation of aged-care work has meant many carers work shifts in multiple nursing homes, resulting of the spread of the disease among the most vulnerable.
These factors were identified and the changes are starting.
A massive stage four lockdown started yesterday, but it will take at least 14 days to see the daily numbers of new infections and deaths start to come down.

@Elessar Yes - it would be the flu season normally, but due to so many people isolating and practising better hygiene, this year the number of flu cases has been down to 5% of normal, and there has been not one death from the flu.
I think that says a lot about how casual most of us normally are about spreading our germs around. :/

@LvChris I know the report of almost 100,000 children infected with coronavirus after being sent back to school. Was initially thinking you had mentioned deaths toll so knew that one was over 140,000
