Can't you be both a dissident towards your country's government and a patriot?

No, I'm not talking about merely disliking just a ruling political party. I mean disliking your system of government and what it does/has done at its core.

If you despise the American government, does that necessarily mean you despise the American people?

I ain't American, but in general, disliking the government is the entire fucking point. The government is in service of the people, if they fail at that they oughta be yeeted.
You are not supposed to like officials, they aren't celebrities. They took their jobs because they want to shape a country they serve in. If this isn't in your interested you are supposed to dislike it.

I think America is doing a good thing by limiting how many cycles a President can serve. We had Merkel for a long ass time now and it's time for a change now.

Actually made a post about that: https://similarworlds.com/2-Community/3461416-Sorry-to-say-but-if-youre-supporting-your

This is confusing to me in the context of America especially. Y'all have a constitution literally stating "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Y'all are expected to march up against your government should the need arise. This is happening currently and some of y'all are offended by it, which is the real anti-American sentiment.

@G00GLE Hahaha! My thoughts exactly.

The American zeitgeist is full of contradictions. I'm American and even I don't understand it all.

@GeistInTheMachine I really love the idea of America. I'm very open about that. I love the freedom and the "American Dream". I truly identify with that, but for all my life it's been pretty much not that. Trump especially. He's the antithesis of what America should be. He's a businessman first... Capitalism isn't in favor of the little people like most people think. It's a easy way to justify unhealthy comfort and billionaires. Life isn't supposed to comfortable. No one should be a billionaire.

None of what's happening is what I imagine the ideal America to be. The ideal America is people being free. No one being disadvantaged by factors out of their control.

@G00GLE A lot of Americans would consider much of what you've just posted to be a sort of heresy, but I enthusiastically agree with you in part. Even though I don't agree with you fully, your opinion is really refreshing. Some Americans hate it, but I always like seeing an outsider's point of view. Well put. Thank you.

Also, prepare to catch some flak!

@GeistInTheMachine I live for catching the flak! 😌
I always hope to challenge the status quo in some way, and if people take offense by it I know I succeeded.
