Because every day this tripe is in the news nobody is mentioning the ever increasing death toll through stupid public policies like stay open for business during a pandemic.
But @Sunujing is correct when he says why are you even allowing monuments to those who did their best to kill the idea of a United States of America ?
These people were traitors to the supposed ideal and anyone still waiving the Confederate flag for that ideal should probably be treated the same way.

If YOU are only listening to the news about this and NOT hearing about the number of deaths to covid or Black people(because hey, they have a threat to their life dounle time right now) then you ARE NOT paying attention.
I have heard the death toll every day. It is on the news. The numbers pop up everywhere on the internet. It isnt hard to go look it up.

Nobody gives a toss about monuments or statues or any other landmark erected because a local dignitary was wealthy enough to pay toget one erected in his hometown.
