@HairbrushDiva It is a bit complicated. When we first settled here in the early 1700's we were all spread out in 13 different states and there were only a couple thousand people living in the newly founded United States. Since the founding fathers decided for democracy rather than monarchy they'd have to work with the population voting problem. For every certain amount of people living in a state they would give the state a point. So Georgia would have 13 points and South Carolina would have 10 points and Pennsylvania would have 8. They'd count up all the states points when voting and whoever got the most points from the states won. It's confusing and I'm not explaining it well, but basically they tried to do it so every person vote counted. Again there were only a couple thousand people in the 13 states. We always stuck with that system even when we outgrew it. There are 320 million people who live in America now and the electoral college is invalid. It should not be around. It made sense before, but not now. We should stick to the popular vote like you said, but it's another one of those things that Americans are stupid about.
@RedtheEmerald Why can't they just be normal about it? If 150 million vote for the Democrat and 170 million vote for the Republican, then the Republican would be elected. What's wrong with that system? It's fair and it's straightforward. No need for "points", just the number of votes each candidate had.
@HairbrushDiva I'm not sure why we can't be normal about it. We've always been odd about things. Using gallons, measurements like feet, driving on the other side of the road, making school grades different. We're a bunch of fuckin weirdos. Numerous bills have been filed in the U.S. Congress to abolish or reduce the power of the Electoral College. There is nothing wrong with the system anymore and it isn't fair. It just hasn't changed for some reason. I'm sure millions of Americans agree with you. It's wack.
@Platinum But why? Who created the first system? Why did some dick head go and say "this isn't good enough" and created a whole different system? Why do some countries use different things? Now that I think about it, it would make sense that America doesn't use imperial. We came from Britain. Idk man.
@HairbrushDiva very unusual for young people to even understand imperial system ....I use it because I grew up with it , but you will find 70 per cent of people at least, use metric and most of them are old....it's good to hear you and your friends use it....
