It's a blip.
Every nation has periods of unrest when issues are brought to light and sorted out. The USA is still a young nation, still working itself out. Bring issues out into the open, speak about them honestly and come to a conclusion, as every European nation had to do before they matured.
The worst thing is not knowing the true issues- once that is discovered, the decent people can work out a solution. It might not be a quick fix, it might take a dozen small steps rather than one giant leap, but as long as the nation is moving in the right direction there is hope.
