Has anyone lost friends over this election?

Have any of you had a friendship go sour because of serious disagreements this election? I don't mean for this to be a political debate, just curious whether anyone has had the same experience. I know plenty of people on both sides of the isle who I respect, but this election seems to bring out the worst in people.

No way, mostly because I support neither candidate and despise them equally. Aside from that, no friendship is worth losing over politics.

Until this year I would have completely agreed with you. I don't like to cut people off because they disagree with me- it's not a healthy way to live. But I honestly think this election has changed people, or at least revealed a lot about them.

But it really doesn't. It's like saying because you like someone that it means you like EVERYTHING they do. So much of this election is about how each party can incite an emotional reaction. Instead of looking at the facts on both sides, they are acting on pure emotion. The emotions aren't needed, both candidates are ...based on factual evidence...corrupt nasty people.
@ravenwind43: I've discovered that many Trump supporters, for example, think what he thinks about black people in general (or at least has said). Perhaps those who called themselves "friends" think I'm an exception, or just have hid those thoughts from me. Either way, I'm not comfortable with it.

@ravenwind43: That's definitely true to some degree. Its when people throw all their support behind someone who represents values completely contrary to the ones I thought they stood for. I think ultimately politics has always been about emotion. Every war/election/political struggle has been largely on the bases of ideology more than fact. Thats not new to this election. Its when people give up those values just to vote for the person who belongs to their party.

Racism has become a card to pull whenever someone says or does anything someone else doesn't like. I consider it the same as people who call everything Hitler. The majority of truly "racist" things reported on is nonsense.

@paresseux: good point!
@ravenwind43: It's more than a card to me, based upon my life experiences. I'll never be able to just dismiss it and turn my attentions elsewhere.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
Racism existed and still does, but not to the extent that it's "reported" on.
@ravenwind43: How do you know ?
Fernie · F
@bijouxbroussard: Exactly! Once I discover that a "friend" has that mentality...that kind of ignorant way of thinking about other people...I am gone. They are toxic.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
It's called my opinion and I am not going to argue for the next two hours about it:)
Fernie · F
@ravenwind43: I find this so amusing. When people run out of intelligent things to DISCUSS... they say " It's my opinion...I don't want to argue" It's not an argument...it's 2 opinions being discussed...not just your opinion. People have opinions about your opinion....so silly
@ravenwind43: So you wouldn't know for certain. Got it; there's nothing to argue about. But it's been illuminating.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
What you said makes no sense. I haven't been discussing anything intellectual, I made a comment on a political post. What is silly is to debate something where neither person is going to agree, and waste valuable life energy in doing so. :)
Fernie · F
@ravenwind43: I was pretty sure it wouldn't make sense to you dear

Have a nice rest of day:)

IMO, race issues get misreported more than they get over/under reported. On one hand, anecdotal issues get blown way out of proportion because they make good headlines. On the other hand, serious issues like mass incarceration and people calling BLM a "hate group" get no attention at all.
