Covid19 - Made In China

I think it was in the mid-60's when I first noticed Americans become willing to compromise - willing to accept lesser quality for lower prices.

It may have been K-Mart that brought the first assault on quality. Crappy merchandise, just enough employees to stock shelves and with zero knowledge to assist shoppers. The downtown department stores suffered, downsized or just closed forever.

And so it continued. Manufacturers responded to the market and many left the USA to foreign countries where the government policies produced workers willing to provide labor at a fraction of what they were used to paying. Even though their quality suffered, customers is the USA - the worlds largest consumer group, were still willing to accept crap for their hard earned money.

I have no axe to grind with the Chinese people - none. It's the Chinese Communist Party at fault. Just like any leftist government, the CCP controls everything. And, it's gotten worse as time passed. And now, the CCP has dropped covid19 on all of us. Killed hundreds of thousands of people and maybe just maybe the real target - destroyed world economies.

With that as the backdrop, my question is this - from this point forward, will you be more aware and less likely to buy ANYTHING Made In China? Will you opt to spend a little more for higher quality? And maybe most importantly, avoid helping to fund the CCP?

China has become one of the world’s greatest economies primarily due to American consumerism.

While the disparity between the super rich and the middle class has broadened over the last 20 years, Americans have been, by and large, well off.

Or at least we think so.

We buy shit all the time. We focus on brands, and kicks, and the latest cell phone. But, we won’t work the farms. We won’t work in textile mills. Those jobs are beneath us.

We empower companies like WalMart to put our neighbors out of business.

And we buy stuff made overseas because countries like China, India and others have desperate folks who will work for a pittance.

And, by the way, Chinese products made to spec are every bit as good as things made elsewhere. But when they are paid to make a shitty product and an American company can market it because Americans would buy it...

For people that complain about products made elsewhere, look around. You love stuff made elsewhere. You probably don’t know it.

You want better products in the US? Stop bitching about immigration. Immigrants will make us stronger.

@JamieStarr America was built on immigrants. Real illegal immigrants that stole the nation from native Americans.

@JamieStarr what you know about immigration in the US and how it impacts the economy couldn’t fill a thimble.

Your ignorance is evident here.

Joey - your comment could possibly / maybe be further off topic - but I'm not sure how.

And, I think your argument is about ILLEGAL immigration. No one is against immigration.

@Budwick oh jeez... ok, look. The reason there are so many illegal immigrants is that the US immigration policies make no sense. All the hand-wringing over "giving away healthcare" is a non-sensical reason to block having reasonable immigration that allows people to come to the US that WANT TO WORK.

A tremendous majority of the so-called illegals have broken ONE law: they immigrated here without permission.

And why are we denying permission to those who want to work? There's no good reason.

If you want to talk about solving the immigration issues, let's go for it.

For the record... this is entirely on-topic.

Yeah, cuz immigration is ALL about covid.

Is because bleeding heart libs and lazy Rinos have not enforced immigration laws.
The dems so they could build a new 'under class' to add to the blacks they managed to keep poor and dependent on government.
The Rinos, so the media wouldn't say mean things about them - pussies.

Utter horseshit. Both parties have been trying to reduce illegal immigration.

And both parties are complicit in not creating reasonable immigration policies.

And THAT’S a huge factor in why we end up being so dependent on foreign labor.

High minimum wages mean the community has more spending power which supports cash flow and a stronger economy.

IS that what you meant to say?
