Is there any good reason for Bolivia and Brazil to be two separate countries?

or is that just a result of historical happenstance?

Brazil speaks Portuguese and the rest of Latin America speaks Spanish. It shows the influence of the empires.

A good question would be to ask why the Spanish speaking nations are seperate. That, i dont know.
