25,000 people died from the flu last year in the US alone.

About 5k have died worldwide from CoVid19. In the whole world.

A 100-year-old man recently recovered from CoVid19. He also had Alzheimer's and heart failure.

Why panic? Because people are idiots, that's why.

@uncalled4 well genius, glad you sorted that out for us

@uncalled4 We had 50 million cases of flu last year. Losing 25k out of that is relatively manageable. If you see 50 million cases of this stuff (on top of the usual 50 million cases of the flu) you will see numbers.

And as far as we can tell it’s more contagious.

That’s why people are worried, and why measures are being taken all over the world.

That’s not a fair comparison, it hasn’t even been a year yet @uncalled4

@Scarlet5 yeah something that's up to ten times deadlier than the flu, which emerged mere months ago and causes a 7% mortality rate in places like Italy when the medical system is so overwhelmed they're holding back life saving treatment from anyone over 60... but it's just idiots who are concerned

It's not the concern that puzzles me; it's the panic and panic-buying that is doing real damage. I'm talking about bottled water shortages and medical supplies like masks. The panic helps no one, and I make no apologies for finding fault with that.

Staying vigilant about this, for me, has more to do with not spreading it to others, especially those who have Type 2 Diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, etc. I do wash my hands often, as it's hard to argue that it's highly contagious, much moreso than the flu.

I have spoken to several people in the medical field who share my viewpoint that this is concerning, but terribly overblown.

When this began, I avoided the media and looked for info on sites like those of the WHO and Mayo Clinic. I still have my eyes wide open, as things develop

@uncalled4 fair enough

@uncalled4 Buying years worth of toilet paper is stupid, yes.

The people I know in the medical field are preparing for war.

@QuixoticSoul I think I feel the worst for businesses like restaurants and clubs. They are not prepared for a hit like this. It only takes a few lean weeks to shutter most places. Mark my words: more than a few places will bite the big one soon.
