A good analysis on impeaching Donald Trump?

One of my favourite YouTube vloggers posted this earlier this evening. It's an interesting analysis, although Carl admits he is not an expert on the American political system.

Christianity Today's article today pointed out the obvious -

"But the facts in this instance are unambiguous: The president of the United States attempted to use his political power to coerce a foreign leader to harass and discredit one of the president’s political opponents. That is not only a violation of the Constitution; more importantly, it is profoundly immoral."

It appears Mr Trump no longer has the evangelical vote.

@peskyone some group that 99% of Christians have never heard of doesn't speak for all Christian voters... 🙄
MrSimons · 41-45, M
@wildbill83 Christianity Today is a fairly well known Christian magazine and, from what I know, pretty mainstream.
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
@MrSimons never seen it

doubt anyone else around here has either...
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
@MrSimons
Christianity Today magazine has a print circulation of approximately 130,000
Mainstream? lmao...
MrSimons · 41-45, M
@wildbill83 Ok, well it's pretty mainstream like I said and would reflect the kind of views mainstream evangelicals would hold to. It was started by Billy Graham in 1956 and the Washington Post apparently describes it as evangelicalism's flagship magazine." I wouldn't underestimate its influence as far as the evangelical Christian vote goes.

@MrSimons Most of Trumps supporters aren't affiliated with the Catholic church (I'd say the majority of us are Baptists); In other words, we don't vote a certain way because the Pope or some televangelist tells us to.
Washington Post apparently describes it as evangelicalism's flagship magazine
self acclaimed experts like the new york times and washington post also gave Hillary an 85%+ chance of winning back in 2016, so no one really gives a shit what they think either apparently

These kinds of published idiotic assumptions with little to no roots in facts are the primary reason this became such a fiasco to begin with.

@wildbill83 so to be clear, the Republican approach to this omnishambles is to consistently try to discredit the source rather than simply prove whatever they are saying is factually incorrect? ...you have to wonder why, surely?
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
@PSuss1 as opposed to the Democrat approach? Ignore actual evidence that proves no wrongdoing, and instead fabricate evidence and have it rabidly spread spread via a biased and unscrupulous media? 🤔
PSuss1 · 51-55, M
@wildbill83 thanks Bill. In the UK so no axe to grind either way, just trying to get a better feel for the arguments on both sides.

From a distance it does appear that DT overstepped the mark, not seen too many people suggest otherwise. The crux seems to be whether it was severe enough a transgression to justify impeachment?

PSuss1 · 51-55, M
@wildbill83 the big lie in this case being that Trump didn't in fact ask Ukraine to work with Giuliani to investigate the Bidens?
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
@PSuss1 The lie being that isn't a crime... Biden blackmailing a foreign dignitary for personal gain is...
PSuss1 · 51-55, M
@wildbill83 I thought the blackmailing thing had already been discredited? But either way, coercing a foreign government to announce an investigation into a political rival is against your Constitution isn't it (it doesn't have to be a crime to be impeachable, as I understand it)?

That's the bit I don't get ... no-one seems to be saying Trump didn't do it, even in the House. So it seems to me the R argument is substantially that 2 wrongs DO make a right ...the end justifies the means? Is that correct?
Lucia · 36-40, T
@PSuss1 Trump is throwing around the word fake-news everytime someone says something that isn't praise of him. And he makes countless factual mistakes in his long speeches.

The notion that this man resorts to lies often is without question. The real question is why the republicans don't react to it. I don't think they don't see or understand it. I think they vote for him for other reasons. Maybe they believe the lie is a necessary evil to win the election.

Edit
I just hope there is sense beyond the word of Trump that makes voters go for him. The long term consequence if the votes on Trump is because he is deemed intelligent, lawful and truthful is not merely a second Trump term. Then it will be the symptom of a crisis of uneducated people who risk bringing about the downfall of US economic and military dominance throughout most of the world. And that will be as big a tragedy for the US as it will for the rest of us.
