Alternatives to Trump

This is for all the anti Trump people on here - rather than just moaning about how bad Trump is in your humble opinion. Who would you vote for instead and why? Eg E Warren for tax policies, Chang for economic reasons etc etc - so rather than just moaning you’re actually suggesting an alternative!

Smart young Americans would like a ticket of Yang and Gabbard in no particular order. Unfortunately these smart young America’s don’t get polled.
@jackjjackson They do get polled, there’s just not that many of them.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
They don’t answer their cell phones if called. Thr 25-40 age groups I encounter are pretty darn smart yes. @LeopoldBloom
monte3 · 70-79, M
And you know this how? It seems like a lot of, if not most, polls do break out by age. @jackjjackson
Lila15 · 22-25, F
@jackjjackson Some of them do answer, and pollsters take this into account. That age group prefers Sanders.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Compared to Biden and Warren FOR SURE @Lila15
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
There are a number in that groups who are sick of being ruled by out of touch old white farts. @Lila15
monte3 · 70-79, M
See Lila15’s answer above. Good God man the Democrat party is the party of the young. You guys are the old White farts. And the party of minorities and the marginalized. Remember how upset you people get about “identity politics”.
And yes you have my permission to have a hissy fit over the “you people” reference. 😊@jackjjackson
Lila15 · 22-25, F
@jackjjackson Does “old white farts” include Trump?

It’s mostly conservatives who like Gabbard. Yang is interesting but he’s sort of a one-trick pony.

Anyway, the nominee will either be Biden or Warren, or maybe Sanders or Buttigieg. None of the others are doing well enough in the early states to be viable.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Or maybe someone not currently a candidate. Were you a Beto supporter? @Lila15
Lila15 · 22-25, F
@jackjjackson No, and it’s too late for anyone else to just pop up and go anywhere.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Not what another old fart Bloomberg seems to think or another old fart Mrs Clinton seems to think. Not that I are for either. What about Andrew Cuomo? @Lila15
Lila15 · 22-25, F
@jackjjackson Bloomberg is wasting his time and money. Too late for Cuomo, he should have jumped in last February if he was interested.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Maybe I’d nevertheless give a ten % chance of someone unannounced being the nominee. A couple of reasons. None are great. It may be impossible to coalesce behind any of em. How about Sherrod Brown?
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@jackjjackson They know that people like you dont wanna see a yellow' guy in the
White House. 🤭
Lila15 · 22-25, F
@jackjjackson Brown would lead to a Republican winning his Senate seat as no other Democrat could win in Ohio. And I think it’s too late for him to declare now, too.

Anyone announcing now is going to be viewed with suspicion.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
I support Yang and Gabbard in only order. Read what I’ve written I’ve been consistent. Unit comment is not appropriate or appreciated. @Zonuss
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
The only fallacy in your reasoning is that he has the ability to actually win. @Lila15
Lila15 · 22-25, F
@jackjjackson Not at this point. The question would be why he waited so long to declare and what he brings to the contest that’s so special. Hardly anyone outside of Ohio has even heard of Brown.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
His views on a lot of things seem to be the same as most people’s. Just because the weak candidates have been at it for awhile and getting nowhere doesn’t give them any superiority. @Lila15
Lila15 · 22-25, F
@jackjjackson Again, people would be suspicious as to his motives for waiting so long, like they are with Bloomberg.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Guess we will see. @Lila15
Lila15 · 22-25, F
@jackjjackson Think about it - whoever jumps in now has missed the filing deadlines for the first four states, so they won't even be on those ballots, and those are kind of a big deal.

Bloomberg is saying that he doesn't think any of the current crop can beat Trump. OK, but it's the same people for the past nine months; why didn't he jump in earlier? The theory is that he will take votes from Biden, but Biden has the black vote locked up, so even if Bloomberg manages to steal all of Biden's white supporters, he still won't have enough for the nomination. All that will do is make it easier for Sanders or Warren to win, which is the last thing Bloomberg wants. And we're supposed to take him seriously when he will get zero in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada?

Any other candidate like Brown would have the same problem.

What do you think of Don Blankenship declaring as the Constitution Party candidate? The extreme right - Nazis, Klansmen, etc. - aren't happy with Trump, so if they go with Blankenship, could that make a difference in the close states?
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
There was one of those in 2016 as well and nonetheless prevailed. With Mrs Clinton virtually throwing her spanx in the ring, the Dems are going to make the 1968 Dems look like a love fest. @Lila15
@jackjjackson Lila is correct, Clinton isn't running.

Who jumped in at the last minute in 2016 and "prevailed?" Trump famously rode down the escalator in June 2015.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
There was a conservative third party dude from out west somewhere as I recall. @LeopoldBloom
