Why would the people of the UK benefit from a Labour Government?

Firstly, its the only party advocating a referendum on Brexit. The country is divided so letting people choose is the only thing that makes sense.

Secondly, Labour is the only party which has policies which would benefit the lives of ordinary people:

1) Abolition of tuition fees.
2) Building more houses.
3) Giving workers shares in their companies.
4) Nationalising rail and utilities.
5) Rolling back NHS privatisation and academy schools.
6) a green new deal.

The last Labour manifesto was fully costed and the next one will be likewise the same. Its time to make up your mind on what sort of country you want.

I'm a lifetime Labour supporter but cannot and will not vote for Corbyn, Abbot and Lammy.

@SW-User Don't you think policies are more important than the personalities?
helenS · 36-40, F
@SW-User Under Corbyn, anti-semitism has been allowed to flourish in the party.

@Burnley123 Lammy is a racist, Abbot isn't fit to be an MP let alone one in power..Corbyn is a terrorist supporting cunt.

And they can talk about policy as much as they like, they won't deliver

@SW-User Stay classy

@helenS If I thought there was any substance to that, I would not be part of it.

Out of 500,000 people, some people will have some dodgy views. When they have, they have been kicked out though the numbers in question are tiny. If people are found to have those views, then they have no place in this party. Mostly though, its a smear campaign.

A lot of people Labour left is critical of Israeli policy though that is not anti-Semitism, in my book anyway.

@Burnley123 all party's as far as I'm concerned try to score political points over each other with smear campaigns

@SW-User Abbott is an embarrassment she is useless have heard her being interviewed god help us if she had any say in running this country ,

@Burnley123 Are these people similarly critical of Yemen? Uganda? Republic of Congo? I think not. Their focus on Israel is anti-semitic. The only democratic country in the middle east. The only country where Arab women can live their life in freedom and dignity.

@helenS
Yemen? Uganda? Republic of Congo?
Yes actually. They (we) are. Its anti-imperialist ideology which is consistent. Corbyn himself led the campaign in this country against the Iraq War. I'm not sure many Arabs have much dignity Israel.

We can get into a political debate about Israel but my point here is that political criticism should not be conflated with racism.

@Burnley123 My point is that anti-semitism is often times camouflaged as political criticism. And, as far as I can see, this is also true for certain segments within the party. So much so that many Jews and lifelong activists have left the party, forced out by the toxic antisemitic culture.

Yes I may be a bit over-sensitive, but I believe I can smell anti-semitism where there is anti-semitism.

@helenS I am a party member and I've known plenty of Jewish people. There is not a 'toxic culture of anti-Semitism' or anything of the sort. If you equate political criticism of Israel with anti-Semitism then we won't agree. The British left has a proud tradition of Jewish socialism and anti-racism. It was socialists and Jews together who defeated Oswald Moseley in the battle of Cable Street.

In modern times, Jewish Voice for Labour is an influential group of Jewish intellectuals on the Labour left who support Corbyn... and Palestine.

— I know that, of course, and you can be very proud of that tradition.

@helenS @Burnley123 I am no longer a Labour Party member so can't comment with inside knowledge thank you @Burnley123 for your insight.
It is one thing that has concerned me with the press coverage but interesting it gets such high coverage when the review into Islamaphobia in the Conservative Party doesn't.
I do agree with @Burnley123 however that now if you criticise Israel for the gaza, settlement of west Bank and other occupied land, and support the foundation of a Palestinian homeland your are likely to be branded anti-semitic. That freedom of debate and protest should not be restricted.
