What do we know about the psychology of "the base?"

The more Baby-trump [u]exaggerates and lies[/u], [u]repeats[/u] his exaggerations and lies, [u]affirms[/u] those exaggerations and lies, and [u]avoids reason[/u] to back up his exaggerations and lies, "the base" will continue to follow him even though, individually, they know what he is saying doesn't measure up. Yet, as part of the crowd, they are virtually helpless... similar to the population of North Korea that has long lost the will to challenge any of the Kim's.
