Mitt Romney is basically just the Republican party's Al Gore.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@EnigmaticGeek How’s that? Al Gore was the Democratic nominee for president. Right? Are you thinking that Romney would be the nominee if he ran?
EnigmaticGeek · 61-69, M
@SimplyTracie If he won the nomination, he'd probably lose the gheneral election, just like Al Gore did.

Also, like Al, Mitt thinks he's smarter than he actually is.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@EnigmaticGeek Trump thinks a freakin genius. Look at what it got him.
EnigmaticGeek · 61-69, M
@SimplyTracie It got him the oval office.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@EnigmaticGeek Exactly. So it’s beneficial to think you’re smarter than you are.
Unless, you actually believe Trump is a genius. 😮
EnigmaticGeek · 61-69, M
@SimplyTracie Well, he was smarter about getting elected than anyone else who ran in 2016.

In politics, I do think it's beneficial to think you're smarter than you actually are, particularly if you can convince most voters that you really are. Mitt isn't convincing enough to pull that off. Neither is Al Gore. Politics has always been more about perception than reality, unfortunately.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@EnigmaticGeek Do you think Trump is a genius or not?

Trump got elected because of his promises. Desperate people believed his lies and voted for a BS artist.
EnigmaticGeek · 61-69, M
@SimplyTracie Depends upon your definition of genius.

Seems to me that he's actually kept more of his campaign promises than any other POTUS in my lifetime. I think that's what actually pissed off the deep state and much of Congress. The nerve of a politician who actually does what he says he'll do!

The incredible irony is that many of his accomplishments should've been accomplished by previous administrations when the Democrats or Republicans controlled the oval office and both sides of Congress. Much of what he still wants to accomplish also fits in that same category.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@EnigmaticGeek You should answer based on your own definition.

How much more of an intellect is Trump compared to you, especially in creative and original work in science, art, music, etc?
EnigmaticGeek · 61-69, M
@SimplyTracie I haven't thought about Trump being a genius or not. It really doesn't matter to me if he's a genius or not. Albert Einstein was considered a genius by many, but that's no reason to think he could've been a good POTUS. The job of POTUS requires a unique combination of characteristics: some intellectual, some creative, some instinctual, some social, some psychological, and maybe others that I don't even know of. Everyone has different amounts of each.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@EnigmaticGeek In a way you’re right. For the record, I don’t think Trump is the genius he claims to be.

POTUS in my opinion is someone we all respect because he or she has a very high moral standard. He or she is of a character we would love our children to have. And that we hope our children would go on to teach their children the same values. Am I right?
EnigmaticGeek · 61-69, M
@SimplyTracie I think we want the POTUS to have the qualities you mentioned, however they each have different levels of success meeting those goals.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@EnigmaticGeek A person’s character doesn’t matter as long as their goals are achieved?

What is the one single most important goal you’d like to see Trump achieve?
EnigmaticGeek · 61-69, M
@SimplyTracie Yes, character does matter, a lot.

A workable and lasting trade deal with China, and diplomatic harmony with China. Long-term, China is the greatest threat to the US if these do not happen.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@EnigmaticGeek Is Trump succeeding. Is he on the right track in your opinion? Should he impose more tariffs?
EnigmaticGeek · 61-69, M
@SimplyTracie We won't know if he's succeeding until we have a deal. It's far from a done deal at present.

Tariffs are the major tool available to him, since China is already in the WTO. China never should have been admitted into the WTO until they brought their capital and legal systems into harmony with other western economies.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@EnigmaticGeek So we don’t know if he is succeeding? There have been consequences (good or bad) with his negotiations. Yes? No? Grade Trump on his progress thus far.
EnigmaticGeek · 61-69, M
@SimplyTracie I'd give him an A for attempting to resolve the bad situation we're in. None of his predecessors all the way back to Nixon tried to get a fair deal for the US with China.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@EnigmaticGeek Ahhhh you’re a good grader. I actually like that. Like Jesus, He loves that you strive to be better. Never mind if you fail.
