I don't know - but the number of legal immigrants continues to grow - so apparently not everyone is buying the fall of Rome scenario.
@Mamapolo2016 They also know he won’t always be president.
Unlike many of our own citizens.@bijouxbroussard
@Mamapolo2016 Meh, we know. Just want to mitigate the damage while he is.

@Mamapolo2016 There has actually been a marked slowdown in legal immigration.
@QuixoticSoul I just read it is still increasing, although at a slightly slower pace. More and more are Asian, fewer are Mexican.

@Mamapolo2016
Under Trump, however, net migration to the United States is tumbling, down 12% from fiscal year 2017 to fiscal year 2018, according to new Census Bureau data.
@QuixoticSoul As usual, numbers vary dramatically.

Here's another source on a slightly different topic:

migrationpolicy.org

"In fiscal year (FY) 2017, 1.1 million immigrants became lawful permanent residents (LPRs), also known as green-card holders. The number of new LPRs in 2017 decreased by 5 percent from 2016 (1.2 million). In the past decade, the number of new LPRs annually has ranged from 991,000 (2013) to 1.2 million (2016)."
[@That indicates the increase predates Trump...
I have no intention of engaging with you on this topic - or any that even approaches politics.@bijouxbroussard
@Mamapolo2016 Fair enough.

@Mamapolo2016 If you note, Fortune is referencing 2018 numbers and a drop from 2017. Your quote discusses the drop between 2016 and 2017. The slowdown is accelerating.

The total number of immigrants will, of course, continue going up as long as more are coming than are dying or leaving every year.
@QuixoticSoul Of course.

@Mamapolo2016
More and more are Asian, fewer are Mexican.
Why does that matter?
@JP1119 It doesn't matter at all. To me. It was part of the statistics. I am FINE with immigration. I'm only a grandma away from immigrants.
