Imagine for a Moment...

Just imagine for a moment a president who wanted a crackdown on the trade imbalance with China, who wanted to "drain the swamp" but by pushing for campaign finance and lobbying reform, advocated border security but without denigrating immigrants ...

In other words, imagine a candidate with many of Trump's political positions but without his pompous and often erratic behavior and without his insulting comments about immigrants and women, and without so many other Trumpism.

Would such a candidate have still won in 2016 - and if not, what does that say about America?

If a candidate speaks on issues that seem important and I think he is serious, it wouldn't make a difference to me whether he had a D or an R behind his name. There are issues with immigration, welfare, trade and others that need to be addressed. I think people are tired of the career politician talking for an hour and saying nothing. Talking around issues. Abortion for example, every politician wants to talk about protecting women who have been raped or gotten pregnant by incest, to me that is rape by a family member. Rape and incest account for about 1.5%(from a study 1984 to 2004.) The vast majority of procedures are for convenience or a lack of responsibility. Tax payers shouldn't be penalized because someone is too hot and bothered to use a contraceptive. A candidate that speaks what is really on his mind instead of the political speak that permeates DC is refreshing. I would much rather have a JFK or a Reagan as the messenger but politicians who aren't lawyers and have a human side don't seem to make it to the oval office very often. Trump is abrasive but I can get over that if he is doing what I think is right.
