What's so bad about using the Office of The President to extort a foreign country to interfere in an election for your own benefit ?

You just might end up losing that election despite all the Tom Foolery like Hillary tried.
@CruiserCruiserCruiser Russia wanted Trump elected. Putin has said so, and he got his wish. Trump says there’s nothing wrong with accepting help from foreign sources. He thinks so now, but didn’t collide before ? 🤔
@bijouxbroussard C'mon! We are talking Russia here! They played both sides of the coin just like we do during theirs or other countries elections! Have you forgotten Obama's overture to Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev during his own re-election where "things will be so much easier" when he got re-elected?? You would have to be dense as lead to not expect that Biden, Warren, Sanders and the lot have not already set the table with foreign countries in the event they steal the election.

@CruiserCruiserCruiser Everyone understands the peculiar difficulties of election-year diplomacy, and it’s not surprising that politicians will sometimes speak plainly about it. That particular conversation is more hilarious than nefarious.

Trump also didn’t collude with anyone, though welcoming foreign assistance, and attempting to wave away foreign interference are highly damaging acts in or themselves, and the optics are shit.

Ukraine and Russia both got involved in ‘16, with no real “collusion” on anyone’s behalf. Ukrainians served up Manafort on a platter to ingratiate themselves with what they saw as the incoming administrations. Russians put their thumb on the scale for Trump, because they thought Hillary’s stance was bad news for them.
@QuixoticSoul Russia took out $60,000 in ads on Facebook hardly a sweeping campaign to rig an election in the favor of anyone at all. BFD! That is the only proof 2 years of investigations has yielded the rest is hubris by the Insane stream media and DNC. Sadly it is the uniformed voters who will blindly vote party lines no matter what mud is being flung in which direction and how the 2020 election will be decided and whoever can make up the most bullshit will win and the Liberals are off to a blinding start.

@CruiserCruiserCruiser You’re wildly uninformed if you’re characterizing Russian involvement in the ‘16 election as $60k worth of Facebook ads.

"whataboutism" at its finest, of course. Obama was trashed by the GOP for that exchange, which occurred in public, so why all the excuses for Trump, who often excluded the U.S. media ?

And actually, the conversation that was overheard (because the U.S. media had access) was:
As he was leaning toward Medvedev in Seoul, Obama was overheard asking for time — “particularly with missile defense” — until he is in a better position politically to resolve such issues.

“I understand your message about space,” replied Medvedev, who will hand over the presidency to Putin in May.

“This is my last election … After my election I have more flexibility,” Obama said, expressing confidence that he would win a second term.

“I will transmit this information to Vladimir,” said Medvedev, Putin’s protégé and long considered number two in Moscow’s power structure.
Not the same thing as asking for assistance in winning the election. And again, Trump has said he considers that okay.
