I know women mature faster but it strikes me that a seventeen (actually sixteen) year old being more grown up than the actual leader of the worlds most powerful country is weird.

N. B. Thunberg is the teenaged leader of the world school climate strike and the Donald is about 72.

I just voted for the wrong candidate, which no doubt says something about me!

Thunberg can say what she likes with little or no criticism from the world’s media. (How she gets on to those media in the first place defeats me.)
Trump is pilloried every time he opens his mouth, says something on twitter, or does, or decides not to do, anything. He also has the responsibility of being President of the United States. There is, I’m afraid, no comparison.

@MartinII One of the points made in this debate is that Thunberg gets mercilessly attacked by the right wing climate change denialists.
@MartinII Do you remember how ruthlessly Trump attacked the last person who had the responsibility of being President of the United States ? How does Trump deserve to get less than he gave ?

@Burnley123 You won’t find many “climate change denialists” on the BBC, CNN etc. Moreover the very concept of the climate change denier is deliberately misleading. Past climate change is known, subject no doubt to technical arguments at the margins. Future climate change cannot, by definition, be known, so there is nothing to deny. It can be predicted, with a certain degree of confidence within a certain range of possible outcomes, but it cannot be known. So to call someone a climate change denier, unless that person seeks to deny known historical facts, is to tell a lie. I don’t, by the way, see anything right-wing, or left-wing, about it.

But all this is a long way from the original question. Despite my inability to press the right button, Thunberg is puerile, Trump is adult, which doesn’t necessarily mean that Thunberg is wrong and Trump is right!

@bijouxbroussard I didn’t say he did. But I think the likes of Thunberg should get similar treatment.

You're mixing up weather and climate. As a matter of fact, both weather and climate can be accurately predicted, but we don't have computers and software powerful or advanced enough, to get that done. In the meanwhile, we have weather models, that give us an approximation of how much rain we might get a week from now.

Climate prediction is a completely different thing.
@MartinII Why ? Does she make nasty personal remarks about people’s appearance, weight, race or ethnicity like Trump does ? That’s why he gets “pilloried”—or do you think that’s acceptable for someone with the responsibility of President of The United States ? It’s not a fair comparison because as a private citizen, Thunberg has some leeway. The POTUS is expected to behave with more dignity.

@bijouxbroussard I think everyone who makes public political pronouncements should be judged on what they do and say, and should expect to be challenged. I don’t think Thunberg should be given any leeway. She has set herself up, or been set up (I don’t know the background) as the leader of a political movement, and should take the consequences, like any other political leader. Of course, the cause she espouses is one that much of the world’s media likes to support, so she gets an easy ride. I call that bias.
@MartinII You don’t see a difference between criticizing a situation that has the potential to affect everyone vs. personal attacks on individuals regarding things like body weight, ethnicity, racial background, physical attractiveness, pettiness and gossip, with the latter coming not from a young girl but from a world leader ? Trump is criticized because of the character (or lack thereof) coming from his own tweets. This is who he has proven himself to be and I don’t understand anyone continuing to defend him. 😳
