I find it interesting how many have no problem with infringing a "right" because it is big and scary. If you can restrict one right, what is to prevent restrictions on any of the others?

@sunrisehawk There are lots of stuff you aren’t allowed to own though. But people still own many of those things that are illegal and people will still own an AR-15 if it were banned in the US.

@SimplyTracie Yes there are many things we aren't allowed to own, but in the USA there is this document called the Constitution which sets boundaries for our government and guarantees a list of rights to the people, not the states, not the government, but the people.

The AR has no functioning components that make it more or less dangerous than many other firearms and has none of the features that make it applicable to the stricter regulations that most military weapons are subject to.

If cosmetic features are going to be applied to rights, perhaps no assembly of the people should be allowed if any of them are wearing hoodies....

It's a slippery slope once you go down that one.

And as far as owning an AR if they were banned, laws that turn law abiding citizens into criminals, especially in the area of rights protected by the Constitution, is just not good for a functioning society.

@sunrisehawk I kinda find it hard to believe that those who signed the US Constitution were thinking about AR-15s. Besides that, I doubt people thought about joining a militia when they bought their AR-15.

@SimplyTracie If you read the document, and the supporting material (start with the Federalist papers) and that will provide you with a little more understanding. You're argument is an old one and bogus, for if you believe that the Founders only intended the second amendment to apply to current technology (black powder flintlocks) then you have to believe that free speech only applies to verbal and printed mediums as visual and audio transmission did not exist in their time period. If you take up the opportunity to read the Founders words, your question of the Militia will also be answered.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@sunrisehawk I only read the condensed version. But I’m also certain that they weren’t concerned about mass shooting either.
sunrisehawk · 61-69, M
@SimplyTracie I am concerned about the mass killings that plague the world. Not just one method. The problem isn't guns or knives or matches. It is people. Why are they slaughtering others?
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@sunrisehawk
Why are they slaughtering others?
There is no good reason for killing anyone.

I don’t think a knife or matches would be their weapon of choice for a mass killings. My guess it be a gun that shoots straight and has many many bullets. Just saying.
sunrisehawk · 61-69, M
@SimplyTracie Knives, trucks, and matches have all been used in attacks that killed many in recent weeks and months. I agree that there is no good reason to kill others, but focusing on one single method doesn't address the problem. The problem is why are people doing this. The AR that is used to murder can also be used to protect and save others. It isn't the gun, it is the person.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@sunrisehawk Only you would compare a truck or a book of matches to an AR-15. A baseball bat might have been used to kill too. It’s not a realistic argument.
sunrisehawk · 61-69, M
@SimplyTracie I am quite sure that there is little difference to a victim in how they were murdered, and I believe this recent event was horrific
