I’d vote don’t allow unstable people to have them.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@MellyMel22 They ought to work on that too.

@MellyMel22 Who judges instable? What about those whose first instable act is to shoot up their workplace? What about money and reform in mental health and addiction for prevention of violence? It gets complicated.
MellyMel22 · F
I mean those KNOWN to be mentally unstable.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@MellyMel22 And how do we collectively decide on a definition of mentally ubstable?
MellyMel22 · F
@Graylight What’s your problem? I had people in mind who have serious documented mental issues and/or a violent/unstable history and proof of it. Like someone I know who went to jail several times for violent offenses, has a history of domestic abuse and was allowed to legally bring home a gun and threatened to use it if he didn’t get his way. Obviously it’s impossible to be assured all unstable people wouldn’t get a firearm, but it’d be nice to know most of those with a tendency to hurt people without them wouldn’t as easily get a hold of one as they do now.

@MellyMel22 my problem is that it isn't as easy as saying 'people with known mental problems' or those convicted of crimes that they must have been crazy to commit. You're not the authority on the subject, so we collectively have to defer to those who are, and those parameters may not match yours.

@Graylight When did I say I had the “authority” ?? I gave a general opinion that you felt the need to pick apart. I wasn’t offensive or mean..

I’m not sure why you’re taking this so seriously and personally. You seem to have more of an issue with me and if that’s the case come at me with the real issue instead of picking an argument over my opinion that I’m entitled to.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@MellyMel22 @MellyMel22 I'm simply continuing a debate. You made a point - I asked for more thought on it. That's how debate works.

No one is attacking you or what you're saying. I'm asking you to think the next step ahead. Follow a road, if you will.

@Graylight I wasn’t trying to debate. I was just saying it’s probably best that those who for example beat their spouse and/or child and have a record of doing so shouldn’t have easy access to firearms. Another example- a neighbor of mine who I’ve know for over 20 years isn’t a bad person, but he over the past few years became schizophrenic and tried to go after a person w/a knife who he felt was sent by the the government to kill him. The police came, he was taken away and sent home later where he did similar things. I feel allowing someone with that kind of history access to a gun would only make him more of a danger to anyone who comes his way.

Of course not all cases are as clear cut, but I just feel those that are should be taken more seriously than they are.
