The problem is background checks do nothing but inconvenience the law abiding. They do nothing to stop one bent of doing harm. We have had background checks for years. How many shootings did they prevent? The first one I remember, where the shooter failed one, was the recent Texas shooter, and he still got a gun. A gun shop near me was broken into....they caught the guys, this time. They had about 20 AR's and twice that number of handguns loaded up when arrested. They were greedy...going back for more when they got caught.
I doubt a background check would have stopped the end users of those from getting weapons.
