It actually does make sense, and missile defense and resources may even be something to justify the idea to sell it, but the most obvious reason Trump does anything is for the Trump brand.
Greenland is a real gem, and could make Trump go down in history as having done the biggest land deal in US History.
It's way bigger than Alaska, slightly bigger than the Louisiana purchase, and, thanks to Mercator projections, appears to be even larger than it really is.
