A gaffe is not the same as outright lie, or outright stupidity.
It's not like he called the burnt out city, he was standing in, Pleasure, instead of Paradise, or mistaken Akron for Toledo, or tweeted that the Paris fire fighters, should use arial water tankers, to dump tons of water, on a 900 year old weakened structure.
