Will You Republicans Support This 'Family Values' Proposal From a Democrat?

"Family values." You hear it over and over and over from Republicans and other conservatives. And you hear Democrat deride the term, often accusing the other side of 'hypocrisy' (with examples cited like the president paying off porn stars and Playboy models for silence about his extra-marital affairs).

But what about a proposal both sides SHOULD embrace?

Democrats like to bemoan the decline of unions and workers' rights.

Republicans like to bemoan the decline of families.

So how about FEDERAL legislation MANDATING a PAID DAY OFF or pay of TRIPLE TIME to any employee who is required or otherwise WORKS on a FEDERAL holiday?

There are ten such days in the year:

New Year's Day
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
George Washington's Birthday
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Columbus Day (I'm not opposed to changing the name to "Indigenous Peoples' Day"
Veterans Day
Thanksgiving Day
Christmas Day

I would add the following:

September 2nd - World Peace Day (V-J Day)
September 3rd - Freedom Day (Treaty of Paris)

And...

Inauguration Day (once every four years)

That's essentially the equvilant of one holiday a month!

I don't think the guarantee of PAID HOLIDAY TIME OFF for an employee or the pay of TRIPLE TIME if that employee works on the holiday that is going to kill the U.S. economy.

If Republicans and conservatives really believe in 'family values', then they would do more to help keep family together on the holidays.

Republicans might like this proposal....if it had not been proposed by a Democrat!

@DrWatson

A Democrat who voted for McCain and Romney, that is.

Republicans dropped the family values thing a long, long time ago. That's Bob Dole stuff. They kept getting shot down by Democrats so dropped it and went for the cash. They can't win either ways so they grabbed for the bag. Suppose they went for your deal; what difference would it make, everyone is still going to hate them anyway. They are the same as Democrats and vice-versa really.
Aren’t you glad your family has family values? @beckyromero

@beckyromero That's just talk. In practice they dumped it. Nothing ever comes of it, but they do go for the cash (just like Democrats) and meddling (just like Democrats, because they are exactly the same). "The family" has collapsed already.

Also, Trump is not a Republican, he was a dude that ran as one, you have to pick one or the other in order to have any chance of running. If I'm not mistaken, he was a Democrat voter himself as a private citizen.

Trump is not a Republican

Are you calling the president of the United States a "liar"?
