[c=#7700B2]I think everyone has the right to own firearms if they have gone through to process to have them[/c]

@PlumBerries I agree.

@PlumBerries @Fungirlmmm Specially including a psyche eval, like what Israel demands in their firearms purchasing law.

[c=#7700B2]yeah a psyche evaluation is necessary imo[/c]
Let's think about this... someone breaks into ur house with a gun intending to do u and ur family harm... u don't have a gun so u call 911... it takes them 10 minutes to get there and they find u and ur family's dead bodies... if u own a gun the only dead body they will find is that of the person intending to harm u. I prefer to cut out the middleman 馃嚭馃嚥

@NativeOregonian no it's BOOM!!! 馃榿

@Trump2020 except they're prepared and you're not, so they can just mow you down before you have a chance to do anything

@PlumBerries excellent point. Doing everything right. Learning your state and federal gun laws is very important. A lot of people hate the NRA but they have an excellent page that shows state laws and which ones recognize one another
@SW-User I spent 8 years in the Military and the person would most assuredly die before they harm anyone in my household

@Trump2020 You can't reasonably expect everyone to have years and years of training.
@SW-User that's true, but if u r going to own a firearm u need to learn how to use it and visit the gun range as often as possible until u r proficient and confident in ur use of the firearm. Everyone needs to be a Boyscout... Be Prepared.

Funny how that pretty much never happens in countries that weren't retarded enough to flood themselves with untraceable guns 馃
@QuixoticSoul There isn't a country on earth where it doesn't happen.
QuixoticSoul41-45, M
@Trump2020 It's vanishingly rare in most nations that priced black market guns out of the reach of common criminals. In the developed world, it's a uniquely American concern tbh.
Pherick41-45, M
@QuixoticSoul @Trump2020 According to FBI data in 2017, only 90 murders happened during burglaries. Thats out of the 1.3 MILLION burglaries that happened. So statistically, its a tiny blip, not a reason to make policy.

QuixoticSoul41-45, M
@Pherick I know, even in America it's a rarity, and we go out of our way to make sure our criminals are armed.
@Pherick and 1 of those murders is too many imo
QuixoticSoul41-45, M
@Trump2020 And yet, you're against all the sensible ways to actually bring those numbers down in any practical sense 馃
Pherick41-45, M
@Trump2020 The problem is that its going to be very difficult to tell, in those 90 for example, if a homeowner with a gun would have stopped a murder. The outcomes could be better, but they also could be worse.
@QuixoticSoul how would we bring those numbers down? Ban guns? If we do that Criminals will be the only ones with guns. How does that help?
@Pherick my gun makes my household much safer in any event
Pherick41-45, M
@Trump2020 Most likely not. By the data, only 299 were killed by "justifiable" means with guns. They don't break it down by home invasions or not, so some of those must be outside of the home, but lets assume they are all home invasions. Again, compared to the 1.3 million robberies, you have .0228% (basically 0) chance of using your gun to stop an invader.

Then you would have to hope, you just killed one of the 90 of of 1.3 million that might be there to hurt you. So out of your almost 0% chance, you still only have a 1 in 3 chance of killing someone that was there to hurt you. Thats a 0.00684% chance to stop someone who broke in to kill you. Are we making policy to stop that percentage?

In terms of accidental household deaths by firearms, counting everyone under 45, you are already at 353, in other words, you have MORE of a chance of someone in your house accidentally killing or shooting someome than you do of stopping a normal break-in. Not even comparing it to stopping a break-in that might lead to your death.
@Pherick I understand your point but all those statistics doesn't mean that someone won't break into my house no matter how slim the chance is. If that ever happens, I will be ready. I can only speak for myself. It seems there is always someone who wants what you have and sometimes will stop at nothing to get it.
Pherick41-45, M
@Trump2020 So even though the chances of someone in your house killing themselves or someone else accidentally is higher than the chance of you ever even stooping a normal robber, you are still going to keep a gun?

I guess I don't understand that mentality. Stuff is stuff, I can replace it, its why I have insurance. I can't replace a child or a friends child that dies because I had a gun in my house.
@Pherick no one in my household is going to accidentally shoot themselves. I'm ex military and no one else lives with me. When I have family over, most of them are adults and know their way around a weapon. The adults are the only ones that know where my weapon is and no children can access it.
