Now The Liberals Are Calling Each Other Racists.

As the left goes more to the left. What a crazy bunch of loons.

Racism is not bound to any political ideology. I don't understand why many Americans divide everything into a left and right.
Ynotisay · M
@quitwhendone Most Americans don't. 99% of right wing parrots do.
@Ynotisay Too much Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity can do that to a person.
Ynotisay · M
@quitwhendone YES it can. Great point. And one that I don't think gets enough attention.
When the Fairness Doctrine was repealed, which opened the door to that kind of thing, the mass manipulation was on. And now we're seeing the results.
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
@quitwhendone Too much CNN and MSNBC can do that.
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
@quitwhendone No one cries racism, or plays the race card more than democrats.
@GunSmoke9 CNN and MSNBC can also be somewhat biased but they are nothing like Fox News. Fox thinks it's their job to dispute everything broadcast on "mainstream media." Despite a slight bias at times, mainstream media at least tells the truth. Fox News often outright lies. And their viewers don't seem to know this.
@GunSmoke9 Well, there is a lot of racism in this country. It should be pointed out so people can understand and correct it.
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
@quitwhendone Do you even watch Fox? It's the main stream media that been telling us that it's a manufactured crisis at the border, that was a lie. Like saying that Trump colluded with the Russians. Another lie.
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
@quitwhendone There is not as much racism as you are lead to believe. The democrats turn just about every issue into a racist issue. Which isn't true. Just listen to them.
@GunSmoke9 I do watch Fox News. I couldn't and wouldn't write about it if I didn't.

The border "crisis" was grossly exaggerated by Trump during his campaign and first year in office. At that time, illegal border crossings were at a 30 year low. Illegal border crossings have skyrocketed since January 2019. It has now become a real crisis.

Trump campaign people did clearly meet with, share information, obtain information and coordinate with Russians. That is a fact. Those actions did not rise to the level of a prosecutable conspiracy based on the predicate offenses. That is a complex legal determination.

FACT: The Trump campaign obtained assistance from Russians. (That's not even disputed.)

I suspect you don't know this information because you only watch Fox News and they do more than just spin the news, they omit news and rewrite facts. I have seen and heard it MANY, MANY times with my own eyes and ears.

These days, you have to be pretty smart and savvy to consume cable news. I recommend the print media. They are generally much more accurate, more detailed and ask better questions than cable news. They also detail their sources, fact check what interviewees say and explain how conclusions are reached.
@GunSmoke9 I disagree with that. I think you are just overly sensitive to claims of racism. But neither of us have the kind of hard data needed to prove our respective theories. therefore, we will have to agree to disagree, my friend.

@quitwhendone If you didn't vote for Obama you are a racist. If you voted for Trump you are a racist. Want a border wall? You are a racist, really.
@GunSmoke9 I have NEVER said any such thing, nor would I. There are many reasons to vote for or against any candidate. However, there are MANY people who didn't vote for Obama because just he is black. Just as there are many people who didn't vote for him simply because he is a democrat. And there are people who did vote for him just because he is black. Conservatives will generally vote for conservatives and liberals generally vote for liberals. Thre is nothing wrong with that. However, there were attacks on Obama that had nothing to do with his ideology and everything to do with his race.

Birtherism, for example. No one has EVER questioned the place of birth of a presidential candidate before. Obama was born in Hawaii, which is in the United States. And even if Obama was born in Kenya, he was born to an American citizen which automatically makes him an American citizen. I have never heard any conservatives or anyone else complaining about John McCain's citizenship. John Mc Cain was born in Panama. Panama is NOT part of the U.S. nor is any part of Panama part of the U.S., including the U.S. military bases located there or the Panama Canal Zone. Ted Cruz was born in Canada. Canada is NOT part of the U.S. No one questioned the validity of his citizenship or his legal ability to be president. I firmly believe Birtherism was a contrivance of racism.

"Obamaphones" is another great example. Obama had nothing to do with that FCC program that I have known about since at least when Clinton was president. But Fox News likes to push the idea that a black man is pushing "welfare" programs. It's a lie. And while I can't get in the heads of Fox News producers, I strongly suspect they pushed the Obamaphone lie because they knew their viewers would buy into the idea that Obama, a black man, was pushing welfare programs for black welfare recipients. I think that's racist.

Fox News complaining about Obama wearing a tan suit is another example. No one said word one when Ronald Reagan wore tan suits. Black men look better in tan suits than white men because they have brown skin. White men wear dark blue suits because the color blends well with their white skin and gray hair. There is nothing wrong with wearing the suits that complement the colors of your skin and hair. Obama wore what looked good on him. Fox News's claim that Obama "didn't respect the office of the president" or acted in a manner that was "beneath the dignity of the office" by merely wearing a suit closer to the color of his skin has, in all likelihood, racist roots. I do not have hard data to prove that and never will. But It is just my sincere belief that such an idea has racist roots.

Donald Trump started his campaign with a racist pronouncement.
That being that "Mexico...is sending rapists...and murderers" to the U.S. While it is true that a very, very small percentage of Mexicans who have come here have committed felonious crimes against persons, the percentage of Mexicans migrants involved in criminal activity is BELOW the percentage of Americans involved in the same kinds of criminal activity. There are bad apples in every bunch. But Mexicans are no worse (or better) than any other group of people of any race, ethnicity, nationality or religion. The notion that Mexicans are a bunch of scary criminals here to rape our women is patently RACIST. And there are many people who voted for him because of that.

I won't even get into Trump's belief that over a billion law-abiding Muslims in the world may be terrorists. I won't even get into his claim that Neo-nazis and White Supremacists are "good people." I won't even get into the fact that Trump was successfully sued for not allowing blacks to rent units at his properties. I won't even get into the many racist comments his friends and associates have heard him make.

Donald Trump is a racist and xenophobe. Many people voted for Trump because he was the Republican nominee. Many people voted for Trump because they didn't like Clinton. Many people voted for Trump because they want to curb illegal immigration. And many people voted for Trump because they agree with the racist, xenophobic policies he has espoused.

@GunSmoke9
Want a border wall? You are a racist, really.
Do you want a border wall because you think Mexicans are mostly criminals and rapists? Congratulations, you're certainly a ridiculous xenophobe, and likely a racist.
@QuixoticSoul You know, I think barriers in SOME places along the border are a wise idea but not a wall from sea to shining sea. I think we need to control and regulate migrants coming into the country. Having said that, I also think we should simply allow most of the Central Americans in fleeing violence and poverty in their countries.

We let the Irish in when they had a potato famine. We let the Europeans in during and after the World Wars. We let the Cubans in fleeing Castro. Hungry people seeking freedom and opportunity is how this country was built. Central Americans who WALK 1,500 miles in the scorching heat to be part of America are EXACTLY the kind of people with the work ethic and perseverance you want in an immigrant. I welcome the Central Americans because I think they would make FINE Americans.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@quitwhendone Fencing makes sense in the some places.

The wall is overkill for purely practical reasons, but there is nothing inherently racist about it, in the right circumstances it might even make sense. I disapprove of it on purely cost/benefit grounds, but could theoretically be sold - by a real argument, not a blitz of xenophobic tropes - and that’s the obvious drive here. Not only is it unpersuasive, but it is also dangerous and disgusting. It is beneath us.

And yeah, those people are hard workers, and our quotas are fucking stupid. Obviously there is massive demand for these people, or ten million of them couldn’t live and work here. And as with drugs, you can’t ignore demand, the market will always win. You have to manage it realistically.
@QuixoticSoul I agree wholeheartedly. Glad to encounter some wise, logically thinking people on here.
@QuixoticSoul I would add more barriers because currently, CBP apprehends illegal migrants after they have crossed the border and made it a few thousand feet into the country. at that point, they are our problem. We have to feed, house and care for them while they are detained. If a barrier prevents their entry, they would have to wait in Mexico or their home country while applying for a visa or asylum. I think in the long run, not having to take care of them while they await entry will save us money. But I stress that I would be open to allowing a large number of these migrants in after proper vetting.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@quitwhendone If we actually processed people at a rate that wasn’t an obviously intentional blocking tactic, they probably wouldn’t bother crossing over and seeking out BP in huge numbers in the first place. As is, we are basically creating a situation where people have nothing to lose by running the border.

But pragmatism is always the first victim of ideological absolutism.
@QuixoticSoul What is BPB?
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@quitwhendone A typo 😂
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
@quitwhendone I didn't say you called me that. I was only pointing out too many people use the word racist where it doesn't belong. Am I a racist because I didn't vote for Obama? Or because I believe in a border wall, and fixing our immigration laws? Or voting for Trump makes me a racist? You might not believe I am a racist based on my beliefs or who I voted for, but too many have.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@GunSmoke9 Do you want a border wall because you think Mexicans are mostly criminals and rapists? Congratulations, you're certainly a ridiculous xenophobe, and likely a racist.
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
@QuixoticSoul And you are clueless. Just because I believe in a border wall, and fixing our immigration laws doesn't make me a racist. You just have a closed mind.
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
@quitwhendone Another one who assumes that I only watch Fox, you're wrong. Did Trump go to those countries and start the caravans? It was the democrats and the media for months telling us it's a manufactured crisis. Telling us don't believe what you see, just believe what we tell you. It doesn't help when migrants know democrats will protect them. Or offering more incentives for more to try to cross our borders.
