How come Americans voted for Trump?

The Democrats ran a shitty campaign and most likely screwed Bernie Sanders out of the nomination. So they pissed off a lot of likely Democrat voters with that mistake. Additionally, this weakened Clinton because she wasn't "battle tested". She never was able to put the email server issue behind her.

Trump did not "play nice" with his opponents and had no problem openly insulting them. They had no rebuttal, and looked weak and petulant compared to Trump.

The DNC conspired with the MSM to give Trump a lot of coverage in a failed attempt to use his words against what the DNC thought would be the eventual nominee. They never believed Trump would be nominated. (The pied piper campaign) This blew up in their face as they gave Trump a lot of free coverage and replayed his best insults again and again, building him up in the public's eye.

The MSM and popular culture smugly insisted that Trump had no change to win the election so a lot of people who might have voted for Clinton voted 3rd party or stayed home.

It was close, only several thousand votes in PA, WI and MN made the difference for Trump.
@SumKindaMunster Hillary being the very definition of "unlikable" contributed also.
