Are you capable of understanding someone else's point of view despite your political beliefs?

How attached are you to your political ideals?

Can you get along with those that see things differently than you?

I can usually understand someone else's point of view, unless it's so sick and twisted, or so far out there, that I would have to set aside not only my political views, but my basic good sense, to try to understand where the other person is coming from. It's not my political or religious views that get in the way, it's something much more fundamental than that.

Yes, I can usually get along with people who see things differently from the way I see them. But they have to respect my basic human dignity and that of others. I don't care what they believe or don't believe, or how many blind spots they may have or how different their perspective is. That actually makes things more interesting, so long as they treat me and others with respect. That has to be the #1 rule of all my interactions I have with others. Without that, there's no point in even trying to talk to someone.

Wow. I have known that you were smart, but this is very articulate as well.
