@MartinII Yes, by a fluke, but a significant number of those voters will not vote for him after seeing him in office, and he has done absolutely nothing to broaden his support. Consequently, he won't even reach the vote totals that he had last time, when he lost the popular vote by almost 3 million.

@windinhishair I wouldn’t call it a fluke. Perhaps a quirk of the electoral system. As to the next time, it would be a brave or foolhardy man who would predict the outcome with certainty, with nearly 18 months to go and without knowing who the Democratic candidate might be. (Technically, without knowing who the Republican candidate will be!). But as a betting man I would be happy to lay you evens against a Democrat victory.

@MartinII Normally I would agree that it is foolhardy to predict an election 18 months in advance. But this "president" has done nothing to bring others into his base, and some of his base have left. He's so polarizing that nothing is going to change between now and November 2020. You see it now in the polling. His support goes up and down within a very narrow range of one or two points, which is unprecedented. Approval and disapproval is baked in.

@MartinII That's fine. Then we'll just bet. I don't expect anything when I win. You can vilify me here on SW if I lose. I'm serious that the potential for violence is a real problem. I have no problem with conservatives--never have--but the Trump cult that has replaced the former GOP is a cult based on fear, hatred, and violence, and there is no telling what Trump will command his loyalists to do when he loses.

@JT123 Sorry. A bunch doesn't get the nomination. One person does. And whoever that person is, they will beat Trump. He's pissed of more than half the nation, and even his ardent loyalists can't put him back in office.
