Boris Johnson is set to be the next British PM

He's just overwhelmingly won the first round of MPs vote.

The Conservative Party elects a leader in two stages. First MPs (members of Parliament) vote for their top two candidates. There are a few rounds of this and those with the lowest votes get eliminated after each round. The final two then go to the members vote.

Johnson got the backing of 114 MPs in the first round and - given that this is half the Conservative MPs in Parliament - he is virtually nailed on to be in the final two. He also has a commanding lead on all polls with party members so the only thing that can stop him is himself. The next two candidates (Gove and Hunt) are *relatively* moderate but are floundering badly.

This increases the chance of a no-deal Brexit.
