Marxism is... big - and most people only have a shallow perspective.
Marx the communist revolutionary is easy to dislike, and the products of his efforts in that direction did not turn out well. But to appreciate his contributions to economics and philosophy, you have to put in a whole lot of effort, and be able to put things in their proper context. Couple this contrast with a century+ worth of propaganda, and you get the current situation.
