Trump isn’t unique in that regard. Three of the last four Presidents could have fought in Vietnam, but all three leveraged other options at their disposal to avoid Vietnam. It’s been a quarter century since a war veteran was Commander-in-Chief, so that clearly doesn’t matter to the electorate in this era.

He served in the Air National Guard, which was service. However, it was also a way to serve without going to Vietnam. I don’t consider it draft dodging by any stretch, but it was a way to avoid Vietnam.

I think the term “draft dodger” is one that gets thrown around more than it should. There were exceptions built into the system for other service, student deferments, and medical exceptions. Meeting the requirements of one of those exceptions is different (in my opinion) than someone who burnt their draft card or draft notice and/or went to Canada to literally “dodge” it. If those documentable exceptions were dodges, then the problem was with the system versus the individuals who leveraged that system to avoid a war that the vast majority opposed and viewed as pointless.
