I saw a question earlier today, someone asked how it was that Canada had a lower abortion rate in spite of their "lax abortion laws". Someone explained that NO, Canada didn't have "lax abortion laws", in fact they didn't have any abortion laws.

What they do have is actual sex education rather than teaching abstenence, birth control is available for free, health care, including maternity care is free, and paid maternity leave for up to a year.

In other words they make it easy to NOT get pregnant, and if you do get pregnant they make it easy to afford to have a child and care for it.

Meanwhile here in Alabama we are going backwards into the dark ages. I'm not in favor of abortions, but I'm not in favor of 12 year old rape victims being forced to carry a baby they didn't want, had nothing to do with creating, and aren't capable of caring for, nor an I in favor of a woman being forced to carry to term a fetus that is severly deformed and has no chance of surviving outside the woumb, nor am I in favor of allowing women to dye from sepsis because the doctors are afraid to remove a dead fetus for fear of the anti abortion laws. There's nothing "prolife" about these recent laws.

In an ideal world women who didn't want a child wouldn't get pregnant, and those who did would have safe pregnancies with no complications. There would be no rapes, nor pregnant children who aren't capable of raising a baby. Until that day I believe abortions should be safe, affordable, and rare.

@robb65 legitimate options offer better options for everyone.

[@robb65 the Al law makes exception for medical reasons. Rape isn't the baby's fault adoption is always an option.
robb65 · 56-60, M
@Mountainlady16 It's not the victims fault either. I'm not ok with forcing a woman to carry a reminder of what happened for the next 9 months, or forcing a child to give birth.
UserNameSW · 46-50, M
@Mountainlady16 it isn't the womans fault either, don't add to her pain and costs.

Maybe a solution would be to transplant the fetus into the rapists and have them cover the cost, and medical risk.

@robb65 it's God's will for that baby to be Born. Btw I had a baby at 15 and know 2 girls that had kids younger than I did. My great grandma had one at 13 .

@robb65 increased education and removal of financial burden would be the best ways to lower abortion rates.

Archaic laws will not lower the rates, they'll lower the safety of the abortion.

Driving healthcare underground doesn't help.

@Mountainlady16 education encourages knowledge

Sex education encourages sex in the same way the financial education encourages bank robbery

@UserNameSW education encourages teen to have sex.
UserNameSW · 46-50, M
@Mountainlady16 teens have sex always have always will.
Education teaches them to have safer sex, abstinence, and risks
robb65 · 56-60, M
@Mountainlady16 So if we keep everyone stupid no one will get pregnant and there'll be no more abortions? Judging by some of these idiots here in Bama we should be there already.
