That you feel came close (or actually did) to executing the will of the people?

The will of the people is not achievable. The elected leader has to do what is best for the people. Some people will love it and others will hate it. There never will be some huge consensus that everyone agrees on. The great leaders are the ones who do things to better the lives of their people. "Peace in our time" may have sounded much more appealing than "We shall never surrender" at the time they were spoken but the later is remembered fondly and the former is despised.
